IMERG/MRMS for Hurricane Isaias

Comparisons of rain rates from IMERG and MRMS during Hurricane Isaias

Hurricane Isaias, a costly Category 1 hurricane, made landfall on North Andros, Bahamas and subsequently weakened to a tropical storm. As Isaias approached the Carolina coastline, it reintensified back into a hurricane.

This study compares the hurricane rain rates (Aug 1-4, 2020) from ground-radar-based MRMS and satellite-based IMERG_Early, Late products over the area (25-50N, 90-65W).

  • Density plots for daily rainfall (0.1deg)
  • Scatter plots for half-hourly/daily rainfall (0.1deg)
  • Daily and hurricane-duration rainfall contours (0.1deg)
